Description:
This document outlines how a Raspberry Pi is connected and how to fix a Pi that is not displaying on TVs.
Guide:
First, let's start with what a Pi is:
- Raspberry Pi is a mini-computer Western Shamrock IT and Marketing uses to display marketing material. This is what it looks like:
- There should be 3 things plugged into your Pi.
- The display cable (HDMI Cable)
- The power cable
- USB (this is not as important if you do not have a USB and had one in the past, the Pi will still work as intended)
How does my Pi connect to the TVs?
- If your Pi usually displays to more than one TV at your branch, this is due to your Pi being connected to an HDMI Splitter.
- The HDMI splitter is a device that allows a single device (your Pi) to display to multiple TVs
- Your Raspberry Pi should be connected to the "Input" side of the splitter and your TVs connected to the "output" ports
Steps to get your Pi online and displaying on your TV:
- The first step you should do to get your Pi online is by restarting the Pi.
- Locate the power cable giving the Pi power and unplug it. Wait a few more seconds and plug it back in. Also, unplug the HDMI cable and plug it back in as well.
- If that does not work and you want to see if your Pi is working at all, you can open up the Pi and look for indicator lights. The top of the Pi comes off and reveals the computer. There are two indicator lights. When the Pi is turned on and the green light starts flashing, that means your Pi is ok. If the green light does not flash, open up a helpdesk ticket.
- If the above steps still do not display the Pi on the TV then it is safe to assume the issue is with your HDMI splitter
- Locate your HDMI splitter
- Unplug the power from the HDMI splitter and plug it back in
- Ensure that the indicator lights on the splitter show to be on. Make sure the input light is on and so are the output lights.
- Disconnect HDMI cables and plug them back in.
- If the above steps do not resolve your issue, please submit a helpdesk ticket for IT to assist.
